It was a feel-good story, and nothing less. And so the naysayers don’t need to read this. The last day of the week-long activities for children at Melkbosstrand High School ended on a high note.
After a week of activities which included Boeresport and learning how to flip tyres and belly dance and do some basic karate moves, it was time for the grand finale. A representative of Cape Nature arrived at Melkbosstrand High School with a collection of animals that looked just about alive, but were not. And then it was time to hand out certificates and gifts.
The youths, who had come from places like Vaatjie and Varkplaas and Wolwekraal and Melkbosch Village got certificates of attendance and brand spanking new gifts. These included backpacks and toys, some of which had been lovingly hand-knitted.
Looking at the smiles on the children’s faces one participant commented, “This is why we give our time free.” A big thank you to everyone that made this week possible.
The week-long activities were presented by the Melkbosstrand Police, Melkbos Care Centre, the Melkbosstrand Community Centre, the Melkbosstrand Fire Department, ACVV Koeberg, Melkbos Neighbourhood Watch and Community Police Forum.
