A casual weather check lead to the arrest of two suspected thieves.
A golfing enthusiast from West Beach managed to get his stolen possessions back in an unusual way on Sunday. According to the spokesperson for Table View police, Captain Adriana Chandler, the man looked out of his window around 7 am to see if it was going to be a good day for golf – and saw that his front gate was standing ajar.
Upon investigation he heard a noise coming from the garage and saw that a side door leading into the garage was also standing open. A family member summoned Star Alarms by pressing a panic button. Upon his arrival the Star Alarms officer said that he had seen two men with backpacks nearby.
The security officer went in pursuit of the men and brought them back to the house. Table View police was summoned and the backpacks opened. Property, which the golfing enthusiast identified as belonging to him, was found inside the backpacks.
The men, aged 25 and 40, were arrested on charges of housebreaking and theft. They had apparently used their hands to force the garage door open. The men will appear in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
