28 Vintage beauties will embark on a 1022 km road trip in late September. The annual Liquorland Heritage Tour (24-28 September) will take the classic cars, of which six were manufactured before 1930, on an epic drive through the Western and Southern Cape. The classic cars will drive up seven mountain passes, proving their metal once again.
The tour kicks off in George. Day 1 will be a 312 km drive, all the way to Arniston.
Day 2 will be a 195 km drive to Worcester.
Day 3 will be a 243 km drive. The classic cars will pass through Ceres and over the Theronsberg Pass. The drive will end at the N1 Karoo Hotel.
Day 4 will be a 272 km drive through beautiful countryside: the Koo Valley and Burgers Pass, Montague, Barrydale, Ladysmith and the Huisrivier Pass. The drive will end in Calitzdorp.
The day will be rounded off with a gala event with the theme of Period Dress. Drivers will have to dress up in apparel that comes from the same era as their cars, says the chairman of the Southern Cape Old Car Club, Pierre Olivier.
The road trip is for a good cause too. Donations will be made to Meals on Wheels. For more information visit www.scocc.co.za.
