Uber Driver Hijacked

Uber logoFour men posing as policemen hijacked an Uber driver and his passenger. The incident took place on Saturday 20 August on the corners of Gill and Sprigg Road in Table View.

According to Table View police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler the passenger ordered the cab to take him to the bank as he wanted to deposit money. When he arrived at the bank it was noon, and the bank was closed, and he decided to return home.

The Uber driver was very close to the passenger’s home when four men, of whom one was armed, stopped them. They introduced themselves as policemen, and pointing a firearm at their two victims, instructed them to hand over their belongings. After taking the two men’s money the hijackers left the scene in the Uber driver’s white VW Polo and a small silver car of which the make is unknown.

According to Captain Chandler no shots were fired and no one was injured.  The victims were offered victim support on the scene by SAPS employees.
