Drunken murder
A couple’s drunken altercation lead to the woman’s death by strangulation during the early hours of Sunday morning. According to police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler a man (29) had been arguing with his girlfriend (23) at their home in Site 5 informal settlement, Table View. They were intoxicated at the time. The man handed himself over at the police station shortly after the murder. He will appear in court today.
Another murder in Site 5
A 52-year-old man is in custody after another murder in Site 5 informal settlement on Sunday afternoon. According to Captain Chandler two men had a heated argument. An onlooker’s attempts to calm them down were unsuccessful. It appeared as if the argument could peter out when of the men tried to leave.
According to Captain Chandler, “The other man wanted to continue with the argument. This time he grabbed hold of a knife and pursued the man who wanted to leave.” The man tried to stab the one who wanted to leave, but in a strange turn of events the knife was taken away by the latter. He then stabbed the one (who wanted to stab him).
The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Table View police were called to the scene and the suspect was arrested at his home in Site 5.
Murder suspect traced and rearrested
On Friday a suspect in a murder was rearrested after failing to show up in court. A detective from Table View Police Station arrested the 25-year-old man at a house in Delft. The man had stabbed his 23-year old girlfriend multiple times in front of a relative at The Stables on the evening of 16 October 2016. The victim succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident. There was no altercation prior to the stabbing. The suspect was arrested by the detective the following morning.
The suspect was then released on bail by the court and had to re-appear on 27 September 2017. He failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The suspect appeared in court yesterday.
Gotcha!
On 25 October Table View Police received information about a vehicle which had been stolen in Parow earlier that day. Officers noticed the vehicle driving down Raats Drive in Parklands. The complainant was still busy giving a statement at Parow Police Station when the two occupants in the vehicle were arrested. Both suspects appeared in the Parow Magistrates Court the following day.
