Three men who allegedly robbed a Melkbosstrand man at gunpoint  on Monday evening have been arrested. According to police spokesperson Constable Debbie Alard the incident took place at 6.45 pm in Dunker Street. The man had been walking on the beach when three young men (aged 18 and 22) approached him.

One of the men produced a realistic looking firearm and threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over his cellphone. After taking the man’s cellphone the robbers fled on foot.

The head of Melkbosstrand detectives, Warrant Officer Daniels, together with Sergeant Neil Theron and Sergeant James, traced the men to Melkbosch Village the following day, and arrested them. The complainant identified the replica firearm and magazine as being those that were used to rob him. They will be used as evidence in court.

The men are due to appear in Atlantis magistrate’s court today on a charge of armed robbery. Milnerton Cluster Commander Major General Anneqah Jordaan and the Station Commander of Melkbosstrand police Colonel Ronita Van der Toorn commended the detectives for their good work.
