Reeva Steenkamp’s legacy is set to kick in. On 19 August the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation will be launched in Port Elizabeth. The launch coincides with what would have been Reeva’s 33rd birthday.
Melkbosstrand resident Liesl Schoonraad has been chosen as an ambassador for the foundation along with Miss South Africa 2004 Claudia Henkel, marketing guru Annie Malan and travel writer Dawn Jorgensen. A blonde and beautiful amazon, Liesl has pulled a Dakota aeroplane and trucks, and is set to embark on another challenge on 3-4 December on behalf of the foundation.

Reeva Girls
While the foundation is dedicated to fighting women and child abuse one of its off shoots is an initiative called the Reeva Girls. This initiative identifies promising girl students and sponsors their legal studies. The first Reeva Girl has already been chosen by June Steenkamp and will soon be announced.

Liesl has been struck by the serendipity of events. “Reeva started her anti-bullying campaign in schools in 2012. That’s the same year I started my anti-bullying campaign in schools.” And another occurrence took place during Liesl’s recent visit to the Windy City. “A high modelling ramp had been set up in the hall. Confirmation to me this is all about carrying Reeva’s voice.”
“One could not have imagined that a personal tragedy could lead to such positive results. I don’t know where this endeavour will take me; I’m just taking it step by step. I know that I will be doing much more than this challenge for them,” Liesl says.
The Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation will be launched at The Boardwalk in Summer Strand in Port Elizabeth on 19 August.
