Never say die. Spider the five-year-old dog has made a remarkable recovery after being stabbed in the chest by an intruder in Allens Neck, Roodepoort yesterday.

According to ER 24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth, Spider suffered a “massive laceration that they believe to be the size of a panga-type knife. The object used to stab the dog lacerated many major organs such as the lungs and liver and also penetrated the diaphragm. It missed the heart but caught the major vessels off the aorta.”

Spider had to undergo a two hour long surgery and had to be given two units of blood. He was initially said to be in a “stable but critical condition.” A day after Spider’s nightmare, he is off oxygen and walking about in the garden of the vet at Randpark Ridge, undeterred by the fact that he still has two chest drains.
