Teen Fights off Suspected Kidnapper

saps-croppedA Table View teenager who went to buy groceries on Saturday afternoon had to fight off a suspected kidnapper.

According to Table View police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler the teenager was walking to a shop near
Boy de Goede Circle when she noticed a car with an unknown male driver driving very slowly next to her.  “The man asked the girl to get into his vehicle.”

“Fought and shouted for help”
Chandler says, “She kept on walking, feeling very uncomfortable and uneasy.” After doing her shopping the girl walked home. She again noticed the car following her.  According to Chandler the driver suddenly stopped the car and got out.

“Before the girl could run away the man got hold of her and tried to get her into his vehicle. The girl fought and shouted for help, but no one heard her or came to her rescue.  She fought so hard, and eventually reached for the man’s face, and scratched him.” The man released the girl at this point. She ran away, leaving her groceries behind.

CCTV footage
The girl reported the case the following day.  Sergeant Rowan Dowie realised that the shop in Boy de Goede Circle would have CCTV footage of the incident. The footage was clear; it lead Dowie to the same complex in which the girl stays. The vehicle used during the incident was parked inside the complex. A 46-year-old man was arrested. He will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court tomorrow.
