11 Women who were on their way to work at Sea Park Nursing Care in Melkbosstrand never got to work today. The women are in various hospitals after the taxi in which they were being transported rolled.
The accident occurred around 7.18 am outside the entrance to Koeberg. South African Paramedic Services, ER24, Netcare, and various other medical crews assisted on the scene. According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring the taxi was still lying on its roof when they arrived on the scene. Meiring says, “On further inspection, paramedics found that most of the occupants had already climbed out of the vehicle while one still lay inside the taxi.
Paramedics set out treating the patients as well as extricating the patient from within the taxi. Once freed, paramedics assessed the patients and found that 10 had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”
The taxi driver was apparently not injured. The accident left Sea Park Nursing Care momentarily spinning, but then coping. The night staff stayed on and everyone helped.
