Two brave Table View parents saved their twins on Sunday morning. The parents were not at home when their extractor fan caught fire, reports ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

Their children, a set of twins (two years old) and a four-year-old, were being looked after by their caretaker at the time. The twins slept in their bedroom, reports Vermaak, while the caretaker played with the four-year-old in the garden. When the caretaker noticed the smoke she tried to rescue the twins. She was unable to do so due to the heavy smoke. She called for assistance. The parents arrived before the fire and paramedics and saved the twins, says Vermaak.

Both children were assessed for minor smoke inhalation. They were later transported to Mediclinic Milnerton for observation by ER24 and Metro EMS. Life Healthcare and Metro Fire also attended the scene.
