Sometimes a day kicks into action when one doesn’t expect it. At quarter to five yesterday afternoon Law Enforcement officer Dayle Willars had to plunge into Melkbosstrand’s cold waters on his jet ski.
Willars, who is with the Marine and Environmental Law Enforcement Unit that is currently stationed on Melkbosstrand beach, laughs wryly as he describes the sudden turn of events. He says his supervisor was busy looking through binoculars when he saw a boat overturn.
“They must have been trying to turn around on a wave. By the time I got there the boat had been uprighted, but the engine was waterlogged.” The whole trip, back and forth, took him about 15-20 minutes.
