The ostriches were found in the veld between Mamre and the R27.
Nobody seems to know what happened to these poor ostriches. Do you?
One of our readers photographed the remains of what looks like 10 ostriches in the veldt between Mamre and the R27. According to our reader, “The case was reported to the Atlantis Police Station and followed up with a phone call. They in turn referred to the Malmesbury stock theft unit, who referred me to Kuilsriver (which does not make sense as geographically they are much further away from the scene of the crime).
Kudos must go to the Kuilsriver Stock Theft Unit, who immediately sent out a team to investigate and kept me informed by phone and email on the progress of their investigations. Unfortunately as there were no reports of stock theft in the area, we agree to close the case file.”
Spokesperson for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Belinda Abraham, urges people to report incidents of this nature to 021 7004 158/9 during office hours or 083 326 1604 after hours or at https://capespca.co.za/report-cruelty/. Reports can be made anonymously.
