‘Lady friend’ allegedly took part in robbery

What a friend… A few weeks after he had befriended a woman at a restaurant, a Bloubergstrand man became the victim of a house robbery. The robbery took place on 14 June at a Bloubergstrand residence that doubles as a guest house.

According to police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler, the man was having dinner with the woman he had befriended at the restaurant, when the woman excused herself from the table. Shortly afterwards “two unknown men appeared inside the house, and tied the victim’s hands and feet with electrical wire.  The suspects had their hands covered with socks.

Wanted money and firearms
The men demanded cash and wanted to know where the firearms were.  The men ransacked the upstairs part of the home and only managed to take a few small items before fleeing the scene,” says Captain Chandler. They also took the woman with them.

‘Friend’ became a suspect
There was no sign of forced entry, investigating police saw. The woman became a suspect. She was traced to an address in Atlantis, which she shared with her boyfriend.  When the police arrived at the house on 20 June she tried to hide from them. En route to the police station (in Table View), the young suspect confessed and stated that her boyfriend was also involved.”

Both the woman and her boyfriend were arrested. A third suspect, who is a friend of the boyfriend, is still at large.

The couple first appeared in court on 23 June.  They are in Pollsmoor prison and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court for a bail application on 15 August.
