Two men have been killed and another man injured after a heavy truck crashed into a car and drove over it in Atlantis this morning, reports ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring. “It is believed that one of the deceased had been undergoing a driver’s licence test.”
The accident took place on the corner of Charl Uys and Neil Hare Road intersection. When ER24 paramedics along with Fire, Metro and Life Healthcare arrived on the scene they found both vehicles on the side of the road. The entire front section of the car was underneath the truck. Rescue technicians immediately set out to stabilise the vehicles to prevent them moving any further.
A heavy crane from Metro Rescue was called to the scene in an effort to lift the truck off the vehicle. On closer inspection paramedics discovered the bodies of two men trapped inside the car. Both men had suffered multiple fatal injuries. Technicians had to specialised rescue tools in order to remove the bodies from the car. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
The driver of the truck was assessed by paramedics and found to have sustained only minor injuries. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
