An old green Opel travelling along the N7 last night gave no hint of its valuable cargo. It was transporting 1500 Mandrax tablets and what looks like 57 uncut diamonds.
According to police spokesperson Constable Debbie Alard, Philadelphia police received a tip-off about the contents of the car, and a high speed chase in the direction of Malmesbury ensued. Philadelphia police contacted the police in Malmesbury, and the latter pulled the Opel over on Voortrekker Road in Malmesbury’s CBD.

Some of the 57 stones, which are possibly uncut diamonds.
Inside the car were a man (58) and two women (21 and 39). A search of the car conducted by Sergeant Derick Braaf and Sergeant Miles Maarman turned up 1500 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R60 000 as well as 57 stones, which are possibly uncut diamonds.

1500 Mandrax tablets were found inside the car.
The stones will be analysed by experts in order to confirm whether they are diamonds; and to ascertain their value. The man and women were arrested on charges of possession of drugs and uncut diamonds. They will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate court on said charges.
