EASTERN CAPE – A heady gift of groceries intended for a group of jailbirds was intercepted by police yesterday. A 17-year-old man tried to hand over two bags of mielie meal and a bag of sugar to a group of prisoners who were being transported to jail.
Kenton-on-Sea police were on hand and intercepted and examined the gifts. When opened the bag of sugar was found to also contain a cellphone.
The two bags of mieliemeal contained not only the staple food but also dagga which had been rolled into cones and wrapped inside black plastic bags. The young man is due to appear in the Kenton-on-Sea magistrate’s court today.
