Goodbye, Joshua

Yesterday’s memorial service for Joshua Joubert (14) was gut-wrenching. The service was held on Melkbosstrand’s main beach, close to where Joshua drowned last Sunday.

The Atlantis boy drowned before his mother Crystal’s eyes. The family made use of MyCiti’s Free Ride offer on that day. How they must regret having done so in the hours and days that followed. Joshua drowned between 2  – 3 pm on Sunday.

The search for Joshua’s body continued all week long. NSRI’s Diving and Rescue Unit, Fire Rescue, Metro Rescue, Law Enforcement and SAPS’ Diving Unit took part in the search. Family members held a vigil on the beach during this time. They stood in a circle and held hands, and prayed. One of the people who took part in the search for Joshua says that she did it for Joshua’s mother. It was an attempt to do something for her…RIP Joshua.
