Driver targets another Woman

According to police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler another female was targeted on Friday, 29 September by the driver of a silver Avanza vehicle in Parklands.

The incident took place at approximately 07:45 when the woman climbed into the taxi in Time Square, Parklands. Only one male was in the taxi. Once she got in, he told her: ‘Today you got into the wrong taxi’. He said he was armed with a firearm, which he did not show.

The woman was driven around and asked for her cell phone and cash. The victim told him that she did not have any money. He then attempted to sexually assault her, but did not succeed. The suspect drove her to an ATM in Bothasig, where cash was withdrawn, before releasing her.

The woman said that the suspect had a chipped front tooth and the vehicle had no registration plates on the back of the vehicle.

On Monday morning (02 October 2017), while on route to work at Table View Police Station, a police officer noticed a vehicle fitting the description of the one involved in the robberies, exceeding the speed limit on Koeberg Road, turning into Blaauwberg Road. The officer was in his private vehicle and asked for assistance via a Crime Watch radio. The vehicle was pulled over on the corners of Study- and Blaauwberg Road in Table View.

The occupant of the vehicle had a chipped tooth and fitted the description provided by the latest victim.

The 26-year-old suspect from Phillipi was arrested and taken to Table View Police Station. He will appear at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 4 October. An identity parade will be arranged in order for other victims to identify and link him to other reported cases.

Milnerton Cluster Commander, Major General Aneeqah Jordaan commended the member for his swift reaction in the apprehension of the suspect. “He will not terrorise vulnerable women in our community anymore”, said Major General Jordaan
