Dressing up quirkily and having loads of fun on Saturday reaped huge benefits. The Dress in Drag event managed to raise R20299 for Fallen Angels Pet Rescue.
The money was raised by begging for money at Marine Circle and Eden on the Bay, and selling raffle tickets. The event was hosted by two Facebook pages, The Fun For All Page and the Table View Freecycle 4 Fun Page. Miki Vukajlovie, who is the admin of the pages, started the event three years ago. Initially the event only included men. This year Vukajlovie decided to include ladies in the event.
It all started with a dare
Tasha Vukajlovie explains how the idea for the event was born. “A dare was made to the men on the Table View Fun For All Facebook page. We then decided that we would accept the challenge and raise funds for a local charity while doing so.
The winning charity gets chosen by the community, so everyone gets involved. This year’s event was a little different as we got the ladies involved as well and called it Divas vs Dorks. The community donated prizes so a raffle could take place and they donated heaps of amazing prizes.”
Six men took part in the first event, and funds went to the Table View Angels. Last
year the Community Medics were the
lucky recipients. Tasha Vukajlovie, Lameez McCrory, Shevaughn Mulder, Ronelle De Bruin, Nicole Trigg and Gayl Stacey Basson (founder of Fallen Angels Pet Rescue) hosted this year’s event.
