A sophisticated cash-in-transit heist took place in Table View yesterday. According to police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler the incident took place shortly before 10:00 outside a bank at The Stables.
A white Mercedes Benz pulled up right against the vehicle, blocking it. According to an eyewitness one of the men was armed with what appeared to be an AK47, while the other suspect had a hand gun. The security guards were forced out of the vehicle, after which a device was thrown towards the back of the security vehicle.
“An explosion took place”
After the device detonated the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash. They abandoned the Mercedes Benz, which had been reported stolen in Kuils River earlier this month. They jumped into an awaiting silver Jeep without a registration number. A red Volvo followed them.
The Jeep was found abandoned not far from the scene. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident. The Hawks were on the scene and will be investigating the incident.
