Four alleged fraudsters probably regret having booked into a hotel in Bloubergstrand recently.
The three men and one woman (aged between 25 and 28) made a booking at a hotel on Friday, 13 January. They were arrested the following day after hotel management became suspicious and reported a “possible fraudulent booking” to a bank’s forensic investigation unit.
Local police took over when the unit confirmed that it was a fraudulent booking.
Arrested at noon the following day
According to Table View police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler the foursome were arrested at noon the following day after a search of their hotel room turned up some surprising items. “Sergeant Nathaniel van Rooi and Sergeant Cameron Carls accompanied officials from the forensic investigation unit. There was no answer and a staff member assisted with a key to unlock the door. Two males were sitting in a bedroom smoking cannabis. Another two suspects were discovered in another part of the hotel room,” says Chandler.
Search turned up surprising items
“The room was searched and the officers discovered cannabis, crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and mandrax tablets. Hard cover books were discovered, which contained numerous credit card numbers with CVV expiry dates. A total of 264 card details were found in the books.”
The suspects appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate Court on Monday 16 January.
