What happens when a whale strands on your part of the coast? An upheaval, that’s what. It took three men three months to rehabilitate a part of the Blaauwberg Nature Reserve’s coastal section after the whale’s carcass had to be removed from the site.

The whale had stranded at the site, and in the process of removing it, vegetation was destroyed.

According to Councillor Nora Grose three men from Wolwerivier took on the task of rehabilitating the vegetation.

Their work included seed collection, propagation, planting, fencing and management of public access routes. The men started off on 4 July 2016 and finished off on 23 September. Grose praised them for their dedication.
