UPDATE: There has been the usual spate of accidents this weekend on our country’s roads. For one young biker it was the end of the road.
The 30-year-old biker lost control of his bike on the R43 about 10km outside Villiersdorp on Sunday afternoon. The accident took place in an area that is described as “a small mountain pass.” The biker’s friends contacted ER24 paramedics, who found him “lying under a barrier on the side of the road. His bike was lying on the road.”
He had sustained multiple severe injuries and was declared dead on the scene. The exact cause of the incident is unknown.
ER24 also responded to an accident on the N2 near Spine Road in Khayelitsha in the early hours of Sunday morning in which three cars were involved.

According to ER spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth the cars were strewn over the road and one car had overturned. Of the 11 people who were involved in the accident at least five sustained injuries. These ranged from minor to moderate.
South African Paramedic Services responded to various accident scenes this weekend. A car left the N7 near Du Noon early Saturday night. Two people were taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A car left the N7 northbound before Plattekloof yesterday. No-one was injured in this accident.
A car collided against a tree in Montague Drive opposite the Stables in Milnerton last night. Two people were transported to hospital in a stable condition.
Rescue workers also had their hands full elsewhere in the country. According to ER24 a “man was left critically injured after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into a house wall in Rautenbach Street in Carletonville late last night. The house was also extensively damaged. A man died on the scene of an accident at the intersection of Prince Alfred and Commercial streets in Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of this morning, reports ER24.
A paraglider crash landed from a height of about 40 meters in Wilderness in the Southern Cape on Sunday morning. He sustained no injuries, reports ER24.
