Following a recent spate of early morning break-ins Melkbosstrand police and law enforcement agencies arrested 17 suspects. The arrests were made between 21 and 27 January.
According to police spokesperson Constable Debbie Alard Melkbosstrand police conducted high density operations to curb crime and to maintain visibility in the Melkbosstrand police precinct. Random stop and searches of people and motor vehicles were conducted during these operations.
Saturday, 21 January, at 13:30 at Haakgat, Otto du Plessis Drive:
A 24-Year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were arrested for the attempted theft of a car. The suspects were found inside the vehicle of the complainant. They fled from the scene but were arrested within minutes.
Sunday, 22 January, at 08:05 Reiger Street:
A 21-Year-old man was found in possession of stolen property, house break-in instruments and drugs. The suspect was later linked to a break-in in 8th Avenue on the same day.
Between Sunday and Monday, 22-23 January, at May Crescent:
Four suspects were arrested after gaining access through a garage door, and stealing meat from the fridge. The suspects (aged 31, 36 and 41) were found with all the meat and stolen property in their possession, and arrested.
Monday, 23 January, at 05:00 in Narcissus Avenue:
Police patrolling on foot noticed a man carrying a big bag. When the man saw the police he ran away. Police called for backup and the man was arrested within minutes. He had break-in instruments and stolen property in his possession; these were linked to the stolen property and meat.
Monday, 23 January, May Crescent, Duynefontein:
Police were busy patrolling when they saw two men walking down the street carrying a big bag. They ran away when the police approached them. One suspect was found hiding in the dustbin and the other one close by.
Wednesday, 25 January, Olive Close:
Police arrested two men (aged 23 and 43 respectively) after receiving a tip-off about drugs. They had Tik in their possession.
Thursday, 26 January, at Azalea Crescent, Protea Park, Atlantis:
A 38-year-old-man was arrested for trespassing and malicious damage to property.
Friday, 2017-01-27 at Olive Close, Melkbosstrand:
Police found dagga in a 20-year-old man’s possession.
Friday, 2017-01-27 at MyCiTi bus stop:
Police arrested a man who had two parcels of dagga in his possession.
Friday, 2017-01-27 at Mostert Street, between 18:30 and 22:30:
According to the complainant his office door was open when property to the value of R34 000 was stolen. Acting on information the police later that same day pulled over a suspicious vehicle and found all the stolen items that had been stolen from the office. Three suspects, aged 18, 27, 44 respectively, were arrested for possession of stolen property and house break-in instruments.
All the suspects appeared in the Atlantis Magistrate’s court on the above charges.
